The ACORN SW-MW15BW250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw designed for roofing and siding applications where a weathertight fastener is required. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw delivers dependable structural integrity through repeated thermal and mechanical stress. The 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head carries an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the substrate surface on drive, creating a long-lasting, water-resistant seal. A twin-lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads reduces drive torque and increases pull-out resistance compared to standard thread profiles. Screws are dacro-coated for 1,000-hour salt spray resistance and powder-coated in bright white over the dacro base for color-matched exterior installations. Sold in a 250-count pack.
These metal-to-wood screws are suited for attaching metal panels, roofing sheets, and siding to wood framing members in both residential and light commercial construction. The EPDM washer seal makes them a standard choice for through-fastened metal roof and wall panel systems where preventing water infiltration at the fastener point is critical. Roofers, siding installers, and general contractors typically reach for this fastener when working with corrugated or standing-seam-adjacent metal cladding over wood substrates. The bright white powder coat allows the fastener head to blend with white or light-colored panel finishes without requiring paint touch-up.
Designed as a metal-to-wood fastener for through-fastened metal roofing and siding panel applications over wood framing substrates.
Installation is typically performed by roofing and siding contractors using a hex-head screw gun or impact driver set to a controlled clutch depth to avoid over-compressing the EPDM washer. Over-driving will distort the washer and compromise the seal; under-driving leaves the washer unseated. Follow panel manufacturer fastener placement patterns and local building code requirements for fastener spacing and edge distance. Do not mix dacro-coated fasteners with dissimilar metals that may accelerate galvanic corrosion in coastal or high-humidity environments.
