The ACORN SW-MW15BN250 is a self-piercing, self-sealing tapping screw designed for roofing and siding applications where a weather-tight fastening is required. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head fitted with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the mating surface for a durable, long-lasting seal. The twin-lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads delivers faster drive time and improved resistance to pull-out. All screws receive a 1,000-hour salt-spray-tested dacro base coating, with an additional powder coat applied in brown over the dacro for color-matched applications. Sold in a pack of 250.
These metal-to-wood screws are suited for attaching metal roofing panels, metal siding, and similar sheet-metal-over-wood substrate assemblies in both residential and light commercial construction. The EPDM washer seals the fastener penetration point, making them appropriate for exposed exterior installations where moisture intrusion must be controlled. Roofing contractors, siding installers, and general construction tradespeople are the typical installers. The brown powder coat finish is intended for use with color-matched panel systems to provide a cleaner finished appearance at the fastener location.
Designed for metal-to-wood roofing and siding fastening applications where a 1-1/2-inch self-piercing hex washer head screw with an EPDM sealing washer is specified.
Installation is performed by roofing and siding contractors using a hex-head driver bit sized to the 1/4-inch across-flat hex head. Drive screws to a snug fit so the EPDM washer seats flush against the panel surface without over-compression, which can compromise the seal. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer panel installation instructions for fastener spacing and edge distance requirements. Do not overtighten, as excessive torque can distort the washer and reduce sealing effectiveness.
