The ACORN SW-MW15BK250 is a self-piercing, sealing tapping screw designed for roofing and siding applications where a weathertight fastener is required. Manufactured from heat-treated C1022 steel with case hardening, each screw features a 1/4-inch across-flat high-hat hex washer head with an assembled EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) washer that conforms to the mating surface and maintains a long-lasting seal. The twin-lead Type 17 point combined with hi-lo threads reduces drive time and increases resistance to pull-out. A dacro base coating rated to 1,000 hours of salt spray testing is topped with a black powder coat finish. Sold in a 250-count pack.
These metal-to-wood screws are suited for attaching metal panels, roofing sheets, and siding to wood substrates in both residential and light commercial construction. The EPDM washer assembly makes them a standard choice for metal roofing and wall panel installations where weatherproofing at each fastener point is critical. Roofing and siding contractors, as well as general building tradespeople, will find these appropriate for high-exposure exterior applications requiring corrosion resistance.
Designed as a standard metal-to-wood fastener for roofing and siding applications where a 9 x 1-1/2-inch self-piercing hex washer head screw with an EPDM sealing washer is specified.
Installation is typically performed by roofing or siding contractors using a hex-drive bit matched to the 1/4-inch across-flat head. Drive speed should be controlled to avoid over-compressing the EPDM washer, which can compromise the seal. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer panel specifications for fastener spacing and edge distance. No pre-drilling is required in wood substrates when using the Type 17 point.
