The ACCUPRO T2690543 is a spiral point tap designed for threading 7/16-20 UNF holes in production and maintenance machining applications. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, it provides increased wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 HSS taps. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across the lead threads, making it suitable for through-hole tapping operations. With 4 flutes and a spiral point geometry, it pushes chips ahead of the tap and out the bottom of the hole, reducing chip packing in moderate-speed tapping on CNC machines, drill presses, and tapping arms.
This tap is engineered for use in titanium and similarly demanding materials where a high-vanadium HSS composition is required to maintain cutting performance. The bright finish retains the base HSS hardness without the added friction of an oxide or nitride coating, which suits applications where cutting fluid is applied directly. It carries an H3 thread limit, meaning the resulting thread will be slightly oversize to accommodate plating or coating of the finished part where applicable. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing will find this tap suited to close-tolerance finishing work.
Designed for tapping 7/16-20 UNF through-holes in titanium and other difficult-to-machine materials. The H3 thread limit is appropriate for applications where finished threads will receive a plating or surface treatment.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping arms with appropriate speed and feed settings for the workpiece material. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid or tapping oil when threading titanium or hardened materials to extend tool life and prevent galling. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if edge degradation is observed.
