The ACCUPRO T2690505 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 3/8-24 UNF internal threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from vanadium high speed steel, it delivers improved wear resistance and toughness compared to standard HSS. The plug chamfer distributes cutting load across several leading threads, making it well suited for general-purpose tapping in production environments. With a bright finish, no coating is applied, which suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece material is a concern. The H5 thread limit ensures consistent fit class tolerances on finished threads. This tap is intended for installation by machinists, toolroom technicians, and manufacturing maintenance personnel.
This tap is rated for tapping titanium and is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations requiring a 3/8-24 UNF thread form. The right-hand thread direction and four-flute configuration make it compatible with standard right-hand tapping chucks and holders. With an overall length of 2.9375 inches and a shank diameter of 9.68 mm, it fits common tap holders used in both manual and machine tapping setups. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied during use in harder or more abrasive materials such as titanium.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production tap for 3/8-24 UNF through-hole threading operations. Compatible with standard tap holders accepting a 9.68 mm shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with thread-cutting operations. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tapping machine or drill press is powered down before installing or removing the tap from its holder. Apply appropriate cutting fluid continuously during tapping of titanium and other hard materials to extend tool life and prevent galling. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material; do not force the tap if resistance increases abnormally, as this may indicate chip packing or misalignment.
