The ACCUPRO T2690243 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting 6-32 unified fine threads in through-hole applications. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel, this tap delivers increased wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, making it well suited for threading harder materials including titanium. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward through the hole rather than packing them around the flutes, reducing the risk of tap breakage and improving thread quality in production environments. With an H3 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, it produces threads within standard tolerance ranges for general mechanical fastening. Machinists and maintenance technicians use this tap in CNC machines, manual drill presses, and hand-tapping operations.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, with a specific material application rating for titanium. The plug chamfer, with typically 3 to 5 chamfered threads, allows the tap to start easily in a prepared hole and is the standard choice for most through-hole production tapping. At 2.0 inches overall length with a 13 mm thread length, it fits standard tap holders and collet chucks for 6-32 applications in both shop and field settings. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production tap for through-hole 6-32 threading operations using standard tap holders and machine collets compatible with the shank diameter of 3.58 mm.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tap selection and machine setup. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed is appropriate for the material and tap diameter before operation. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound suited to the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Replace the tap if cutting torque increases noticeably or thread quality degrades to avoid tap breakage in the workpiece.
