The ACCUPRO T2670502B is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. Made from 3% vanadium high speed steel with a bright finish, this tap offers solid wear resistance and is well suited for aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials. It features a plug chamfer with 3 flutes and cuts a 3/8-24 UNF thread to a 2B class of fit. The overall length is 2.9375 inches with a 24 mm thread length, making it a standard-reach tap for general machine shop and maintenance work. Machinists, toolroom techs, and maintenance professionals install this type of tap in CNC machines, manual drill presses, and tapping heads.
This tap is used in applications where a controlled thread form and accurate fit class are required. The 3/8-24 UNF thread size is common in precision mechanical assemblies, hydraulic fittings, and instrumentation work. The plug chamfer allows the tap to enter a partially started hole and is suitable for through-hole tapping where chip evacuation is managed by the spiral point pushing chips ahead of the cutting edge. The 2B class of fit is the standard tolerance for most general-purpose threaded fastener applications. Material application is listed as aluminum, though vanadium HSS is also used in other softer metals and plastics at appropriate speeds.
Designed for through-hole tapping in aluminum and comparable soft metal workpieces where a 3/8-24 UNF 2B thread is required. Compatible with standard tapping chucks, CNC rigid tap holders, and manual tapping handles that accept round shank taps with a 9.68 mm shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and proper hole preparation for the thread size. Always drill the correct tap drill size before tapping and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped. Reverse the tap periodically in manual operations to break chips and prevent tap breakage.
