The ACCUPRO T2670485 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in through-hole applications. Manufactured from 3% vanadium high-speed steel, this plug chamfer tap provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for production tapping in aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, reducing clogging and allowing faster feed rates compared to spiral flute designs. It carries an H5 thread limit and a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for standard fastener thread tolerances. Overall length is 2.9375 inches with a 24 mm thread length. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics install this tap with standard tap wrenches or CNC tapping heads.
This tap is intended for through-hole tapping operations in aluminum per the listed material application. The plug chamfer — typically 3 to 5 threads of lead — makes it well suited as a starter tap or for full through-hole tapping where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for aluminum and soft metals where coatings such as TiN are not required. With three flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it fits standard right-hand tapping setups on manual machines, drill presses, and CNC machining centers without coolant-through requirements.
Designed for through-hole tapping of aluminum in applications requiring a 3/8-16 UNC, 2B class of fit thread. Fits standard tap holders and tapping heads accepting a 9.68 mm shank diameter.
Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for a 3/8-16 thread. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded, even though no coolant-through feature is present. On CNC equipment, verify spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the tap pitch to avoid tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace if thread form or chamfer shows visible damage.
