The ACCUPRO T2640642B is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 5/8-11 UNC threads in through-hole applications. It features a plug chamfer and three flutes, with the spiral point geometry pushing chips forward ahead of the cut rather than packing them in the flute. This action keeps the cutting zone clear and allows for efficient tapping at production rates. The tap is manufactured from 3 percent vanadium high speed steel (HSS) and carries a bright finish. With an overall length of 3.81 inches and a thread length of 32 millimeters, it fits standard tap holders and extension arms used in machining and fabrication environments. A Class 2B fit tolerance is held throughout the thread form.
This tap is suited for right-hand threading in steel and general ferrous materials. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for through-hole work where the tap can pass completely through the material. Typical applications include structural fabrication, machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production threading where a 5/8-11 UNC thread is required. Coolant-through is not supported on this model, so flood or brush-applied cutting fluid is recommended during use.
Designed for use in standard tap holders, tapping heads, and CNC rigid tapping setups accepting a 12.19 millimeter shank diameter. Intended for threading steels in through-hole configurations requiring a 5/8-11 UNC Class 2B thread.
This tap should be installed and operated by a machinist or qualified metalworking technician familiar with tapping procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tap driver is properly aligned before beginning the cut. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material before and during tapping to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Never reverse a broken tap with force — follow standard extraction procedures to avoid damaging the workpiece.
