The ACCUPRO T2640465 is a spiral point tap designed to cut 5/16-24 UNF threads in through-hole applications. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for production tapping in steel and similar materials where chip evacuation is critical. Built from 3% vanadium high-speed steel, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard M2 HSS. It carries an H5 thread limit and a bright, uncoated finish. Overall length is 2.7188 inches with a thread length of approximately 0.866 inches (22 mm). This tap is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines.
This tap is intended for use in steel and comparable ferrous materials in through-hole tapping operations. The plug chamfer, with its moderate lead, is the standard choice for most production and general-purpose tapping work where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. It is commonly used in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments that require accurate, repeatable UNF threaded holes in light to medium carbon steel stock. The 3-flute configuration provides a balance of chip room and thread support suitable for these material applications.
Designed for use in through-hole tapping of steel workpieces requiring 5/16-24 UNF threads. Fits standard tap holders and floating tap collets sized for an 8.08 mm shank diameter.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and proper tool holding. Always ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for the workpiece material to protect the cutting edges and improve thread finish. Inspect tap condition before each use and replace at the first sign of wear or chipping.
