The ACCUPRO T2640202B is a spiral point tap designed for threading 5-40 unified fine pitch holes in steel and similar ferrous materials. It features a plug chamfer style with 3 flutes and a 2B class of fit, producing right-hand internal threads. Built from 3 percent vanadium high speed steel with a bright finish, this tap delivers the edge retention and toughness needed for production tapping in machine shop and field fabrication settings. The overall length is 1.94 inches with a thread length of 11 millimeters, making it suited for through-hole applications where the spiral point pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action.
This tap is intended for use in through-hole threading operations on steel workpieces. The 5-40 thread size places it in small-fastener territory, common in instrument enclosures, electronic assemblies, HVAC control panels, and light mechanical assemblies. The 2B class of fit meets standard tolerance requirements for most commercial threaded connections. Machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and field technicians performing tap-and-die work on steel components are the primary users. Coolant-through capability is not included, so it is suited for conventional tapping with applied cutting fluid.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral point tap for through-hole 5-40 tapping operations in steel and similar materials using standard tapping heads, drill presses, or CNC machining centers equipped for small-diameter taps.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tapping chuck or collet rated for the shank diameter. Always drill the correct tap drill size for a 5-40 thread before tapping to avoid tap breakage. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap enters the hole perpendicular to the surface to maintain thread quality and prevent tool breakage.
