The ACCUPRO T2634503 is a spiral flute tap designed to cut 3/8-24 UNF internal threads in steel and similarly machinable materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing it to thread closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap while still providing adequate lead-in. The three right-hand flutes run in a right-hand helix at 33 degrees, which helps pull chips up and out of the hole during the tapping operation. Manufactured from 3 percent vanadium high speed steel (HSS), this tap delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention over standard M2 HSS. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose shop use where coolant or cutting fluid is applied externally.
This tap is suited for threading operations in ferrous metals, particularly steel, in production and maintenance environments. It is appropriate for use in manual tapping handles, tapping heads, CNC machining centers, and knee mills where a rigid or semi-rigid tapping setup is used. The 3B class of fit produces a standard tolerance internal thread compatible with most fastener and assembly applications. The H3 thread limit designation indicates the tap is ground to produce threads at the upper range of 3B tolerance, compensating for slight spring-back in harder materials. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and MRO environments will find this tap appropriate for general threading tasks.
Designed as a standard spiral flute tap for cutting 3/8-24 UNF right-hand internal threads in steel and comparable ferrous materials with a 3B class of fit.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or toolmakers following established threading procedures. Ensure the workpiece is properly secured before beginning the tapping operation, and always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil to reduce heat and tool wear. When tapping blind holes, set depth stops carefully to avoid bottoming the tap under power. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines regarding spindle speed and feed rate for the material being threaded.
