The ACCUPRO T1640302 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 8-36 unified fine threads in through-hole applications. It features a plug chamfer, three flutes, and is manufactured from HSS-E vanadium high speed steel with an oxide finish for improved lubricity and surface protection. The H2 thread limit holds tight tolerances suitable for Class 2, 2B, and 3B fits. Right-hand thread direction is standard. With an overall length of 2.126 inches and a thread length of 0.511 inches, this tap is sized for use in light-duty machining, maintenance, and repair work across a wide range of materials. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where chip ejection forward is required. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of tap breakage in production or job-shop environments. It is appropriate for use in manual tapping handles, drill presses, and CNC tapping cycles. The 8-36 thread form is commonly found in precision instrument work, electronics hardware, and small mechanical assemblies where fine thread engagement is required in thin or hard materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for 8-36 unified fine thread through-hole tapping operations. Fits standard tap holders and collet-style tool holders accepting a 0.168-inch shank diameter.
Install in a properly sized tap holder or collet rated for the shank diameter before use. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the correct drill size for an 8-36 thread has been used prior to tapping. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage if used in worn or misaligned setups.
