The ACCUPRO T1640282 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 8-32 unified national coarse threads in through-hole applications. It features three flutes and a plug chamfer, which distributes cutting load gradually and helps push chips forward ahead of the cutting edge. The tap is manufactured from HSS-E Vanadium high speed steel for improved wear resistance and toughness compared to standard M2 HSS. An oxide finish reduces friction and provides a measure of corrosion resistance during use and storage. The H2 thread limit and Class 2/3B fit make this tap suitable for standard tolerance threaded fastener applications across a broad range of materials including mild steel, aluminum, and similar metals.
This tap is used in metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication environments where through-hole tapping at the 8-32 thread size is required. It is a right-hand tap intended for use in standard right-hand drill presses, CNC tapping cycles, or hand tapping operations. The plug chamfer style makes it best suited for through-holes rather than blind holes. Machinists, tool and die technicians, maintenance mechanics, and field service professionals working with threaded assemblies in light-gauge steel, aluminum, and brass components will find this tap appropriate for their applications.
Designed as a standard replacement spiral point tap for through-hole 8-32 UNC tapping operations. Compatible with standard tap holders, collets, and tapping heads that accept a 0.168-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be used by qualified machinists or maintenance professionals familiar with proper tapping techniques and speeds for the material being threaded. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the cut. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as tap breakage in a blind or partially threaded hole can be difficult to recover from.
