The ACCUPRO T1630616 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading M16x1.50 metric holes in production machining environments. Built from vanadium high-speed steel and finished with an oxide coating, this tap handles the elevated heat and wear demands of tapping stainless steel and other tough materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, keeping the flutes clear and reducing the risk of chip packing in through-hole applications. With 3 flutes and a D6 thread limit, it delivers consistent thread accuracy suitable for close-tolerance work. Machinists and tool crib technicians in metalworking shops are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for through-hole tapping operations in stainless steel, as indicated by its material application rating. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in that distributes cutting forces across several threads, making it a practical choice for CNC machining centers and manual drill presses alike. The right-hand thread direction matches standard fastener orientation for most industrial assemblies. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tap, so external flood or mist coolant should be applied when tapping stainless steel to control heat buildup and extend tool life.
Designed for use in through-hole tapping of stainless steel workpieces requiring an M16x1.50 metric thread. Fits standard tap holders and chucks sized for a 12.19 mm shank diameter.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or tooling technicians using CNC equipment, manual mills, or drill presses with appropriate tap holders. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the spindle is stopped before changing tooling. Apply adequate external coolant or cutting fluid when tapping stainless steel to prevent galling and premature tool failure. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the tap size, and back off periodically to break chips if performing manual tapping.
