The ACCUPRO T1630364 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading M8x1.25 holes in production and job-shop machining environments. Built from 3% vanadium high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers good wear resistance and chip evacuation in a range of materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it well-suited for through-hole tapping operations. With a D4 thread limit, it holds tight tolerances appropriate for standard M8 metric fastener fits. Overall length is 69 millimeters with a 22 millimeter thread length and an 8.08 millimeter shank diameter. Installation is performed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines.
This tap is intended for right-hand threading in through-hole applications. The material application rating covers stainless steel, making it a practical choice when threading austenitic or martensitic grades that demand a harder, more wear-resistant cutting tool. The 3-flute design provides a balance between chip clearance and tool body strength at this thread size. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tap, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when tapping stainless or other tough alloys.
Designed as a standard metric spiral point plug tap for M8x1.25 through-hole threading operations on machining centers, CNC lathes with live tooling, drill presses, and manual tapping machines that accept straight-shank taps.
Ensure the spindle or tapping head is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely fixtured before tap engagement. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound, especially when threading stainless steel, to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Verify that the tap holder provides adequate float to compensate for minor axial misalignment. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping after each production run; a worn tap left in service can cause thread damage or tap breakage that is difficult to recover from.
