The ACCUPRO T1620523 is a spiral point plug tap designed for threading 7/16-14 UNC holes in stainless steel and similarly tough materials. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel with an oxide finish, this tap handles the elevated cutting temperatures and abrasion common in stainless steel applications. It features 3 flutes and a plug chamfer, which distributes the cutting load across several leading threads for smooth entry and consistent thread formation. The right-hand thread direction and H3 thread limit make it a dependable choice for general-purpose machine tapping in production and job-shop environments. No coolant-through capability means it is suited for flooded or brushed coolant setups.
This tap is used in machine tapping operations on lathes, drill presses, tapping machines, and CNC machining centers. It is well suited for threading stainless steel workpieces in aerospace, automotive, medical device, and industrial fabrication shops. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for through-hole applications where the tap can run fully through the material. Trade machinists and toolmakers working with 7/16-14 UNC fastener specifications will find this tap fits standard production toolholders designed for the 8.20 mm shank diameter.
Designed for use in machine tapping operations targeting 7/16-14 UNC through-holes, particularly in stainless steel workpieces. Fits standard toolholders and tapping heads accepting an 8.20 mm shank diameter.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals in machine tapping applications. Secure the tap in a properly sized tapping chuck or holder and ensure the spindle speed is appropriate for the material and tap diameter before starting the cut. Apply cutting fluid rated for stainless steel to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and do not force a tap that has stopped advancing, as breakage in stainless steel is difficult to recover from.
