The ACCUPRO T1604485 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 3/8-16 unified coarse (UNC) internal threads in production and maintenance machining applications. Built from 3% vanadium high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and lubricity compared to standard HSS taps. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole. With a 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style, the T1604485 efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and tough materials. Machining technicians and toolroom professionals install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping attachments.
This tap is rated for use in stainless steel, which demands the added hardness and edge retention that vanadium high-speed steel provides. The 2B class of fit produces a standard commercial thread tolerance suitable for most fastener and assembly applications. With a 16 mm thread length and an overall length of 2-15/16 inches, the T1604485 fits standard tapping chucks and collet holders used in vertical machining centers and bench-top tapping units. The right-hand thread direction and right-hand flute orientation are consistent with conventional tapping operations. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for 3/8-16 tapping operations in machining environments. Fits standard tap holders, tapping chucks, and collet systems sized for the 9.68 mm shank diameter. Rated for use in stainless steel per manufacturer material application data.
Installation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and torque requirements for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle and tapping attachment are fully stopped and de-energized before loading or unloading the tap. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for stainless steel to reduce heat buildup and galling. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety codes when operating tapping equipment.
