The ACCUPRO 89699052 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create accurate, centered starting points for follow-on drilling operations. Built with a 90-degree drill point angle and a 6mm cutting diameter, this tool establishes precise cone-shaped seats that guide twist drills and reduce walkout on flat, angled, or curved workpiece surfaces. The spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut promote clean chip evacuation during the spotting pass. At 63mm overall length with a 20mm flute length, the tool is compact and rigid, minimizing deflection in both manual and CNC setups. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and production shop technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This spotting drill is suited for general-purpose metal cutting applications in job shops, production machining, and maintenance environments. It is used ahead of standard twist drills, step drills, or counterbores to establish a precise pilot location. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks, drill chucks, and ER-style toolholders commonly found on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills. Single-ended construction keeps the tool easy to index and replace in high-turnover operations.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard straight-shank toolholders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual milling machines accepting a 6mm shank diameter.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or unloading the tool. Verify the toolholder collet or chuck bore is clean and within tolerance for a 6mm straight shank before tightening. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines for spindle speeds and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material.
