The ACCUPRO 89698997 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create precise, accurate center points before drilling operations. Ground to a 90-degree drill point angle, it establishes clean, burr-free starting divots that guide twist drills and prevent walk on flat or contoured workpiece surfaces. The 4mm cutting diameter and 51mm overall length make it well suited to small-diameter spot-drilling work in metals, alloys, and plastics. With a bright, uncoated finish and a straight-cylindrical shank, this single-ended tool seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists and toolroom operators working on CNC mills, drill presses, or manual machining centers will find it a reliable general-purpose option.
This spotting drill is intended for general-purpose metal-removal applications where hole-start accuracy is critical. Typical use cases include pre-spotting hole patterns on steel, aluminum, brass, and engineering plastics in both job-shop and production environments. The 2-flute spiral flute design promotes chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during the spot-drilling pass. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional clockwise spindle rotation. Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide spotting drill for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills equipped with standard drill chucks or collet systems accepting a 4mm straight-cylindrical shank.
A licensed machinist or qualified toolroom technician should install this drill in a properly sized collet or drill chuck, verifying runout before operation. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Set spindle speed and feed rate per the workpiece material and machine manufacturer guidelines — do not extrapolate speeds from high-speed steel drill charts when running carbide tooling. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from impact or improper handling.
