The ACCUPRO 781011 is a live center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and live-spindle applications requiring a Morse Taper shank. Fitted with an MT2 taper shank, the unit accepts workpieces up to 1,102.3 pounds load capacity at speeds up to 5,000 RPM. The standard 60-degree included-angle point measures 25.00 millimeters in diameter and 29.50 millimeters in length. A precision-ground bearing assembly allows the center point to rotate with the workpiece, eliminating friction and heat buildup at the contact zone. Runout accuracy is rated at 0.003 millimeters. The unit weighs 1.5 pounds and is suited for production turning, toolroom work, and general-purpose cylindrical machining operations performed by machinists and CNC lathe operators.
The 781011 is intended for use in manual engine lathes and CNC turning centers equipped with an MT2 tailstock bore. The overall assembly length is 141.00 millimeters, with a shank length of 2.677 inches and a head length of 1.713 inches. Head diameter is 50.00 millimeters. The point-to-gauge-line dimension is 79.00 millimeters, which is relevant for tool offset programming and tailstock positioning. This center is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where the workpiece requires steady rear support, particularly on parts with a length-to-diameter ratio that would cause deflection without tailstock assistance.
Designed as a direct-fit live center for lathes and turning centers with an MT2 Morse Taper tailstock bore.
Installation is performed by machinists or lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the taper shank from the tailstock. Ensure the tailstock bore and shank are clean and free of chips or burrs before insertion to achieve full taper contact and preserve runout accuracy. Use a properly sized drift punch through the tailstock ejector slot to remove the center - never strike the center body directly. Verify tailstock alignment to the spindle centerline after installation before taking cuts.
