The ACCUPRO 75297077 is a VBMT-style carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation VBMT331 and ISO designation VBMT160404. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 5-degree relief angle and a 0.40 mm (0.0157 inch) corner radius. Manufactured in grade ACP25M with a CVD coating, it is engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The XM1+ chip breaker geometry helps control chip formation during moderate to high-feed turning passes. It is a neutral-hand insert secured by screw clamping.
This insert is suited for finish to semi-finish turning on CNC turning centers and engine lathes in production and job-shop environments. The ACP25M grade covers ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), and K (cast iron), making it a versatile choice when a single insert grade must handle varied workpiece materials. Typical users include CNC machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production turning operations. The maximum depth of cut is 2.00 mm (0.0787 inch), positioning this insert primarily in finish and light semi-finish applications rather than heavy roughing.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard VBMT331 screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting inserts with a 9.53 mm (0.3752 inch) inscribed circle and 4.76 mm (0.1874 inch) insert thickness. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw size before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, de-energize the machine, engage the spindle lock, and follow the machine tool manufacturer's lockout procedure. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for this insert grade, and confirm workpiece material compatibility with the ACP25M grade before running production.
