The ACCUPRO 4500172 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter U (0.3680 inches decimal) with a 140-degree split point and a TiAlN coating. Designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials, it features a right-hand cutting direction, regular spiral fluting with web thinning (R-Thinned), and a straight cylindrical shank measuring 25/64 inch (0.3906 inches decimal). The overall length is 5-23/64 inches (5.3594 inches decimal), and the flute length is 3 inches. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat management during deep or high-feed operations. This bit is intended for use by machinists and metalworking professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 4500172 is optimized for drilling stainless steel and other hard ferrous and non-ferrous alloys where heat buildup and tool wear are primary concerns. The TiAlN coating provides oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures, extending tool life in interrupted cuts and continuous drilling cycles. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for moderate-depth holes where chip clearance and rigidity are both required. Typical applications include aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining operations on stainless steel and similar hard metals.
Designed as a high-performance solid carbide jobber drill for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 25/64-inch (0.3906-inch decimal) straight shank; primary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard metalworking safety practices. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation, and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits to protect the carbide substrate. When drilling stainless steel, engage coolant-through or external flood coolant from the start of the cut to prevent work hardening and premature edge failure. Do not use this bit in hammer or percussion mode.
