The ACCUPRO 40145-00T is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 7/16-14 UNC right-hand internal threads in a wide range of materials. The fast-helix spiral flute design, set at a 42-degree helix angle, pulls chips up and out of the hole during tapping, reducing the risk of chip packing and thread damage. Built from powdered metal with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel alternatives. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 3-5/32 inches. Thread limit is H5, indicating a standard tolerance class suitable for most general-purpose threaded assemblies.
This tap is used in metalworking and machining applications where blind-hole tapping is required and chip evacuation is a concern. The spiral flute design makes it particularly effective in materials that produce long, stringy chips, such as aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel. It is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines in production and job-shop environments. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance mechanics rely on this style of tap for consistent thread quality in high-volume or precision applications.
Designed as a general-purpose spiral flute tap for 7/16-14 UNC threaded applications. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and production tapping equipment that accepts standard shank taps in this size class.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolmaker using a properly sized tap holder or floating tap adapter to minimize side loading. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tapping head is properly aligned with the hole centerline before engaging the tap. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as this may indicate chip packing or tap binding.
