The ACCUPRO 40125-01C is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 3/8-16 UNC internal threads in a wide range of materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 42-degree helix angle and fast flute style help evacuate chips upward out of the hole during the tapping operation, reducing chip packing and improving thread quality. Manufactured from powdered metal and finished with a TICN coating, this tap offers increased surface hardness and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel options. It is suited for production environments where tool life and consistency matter.
This tap is intended for use in machine tapping applications on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration match the standard tapping direction for most shop setups. The 2B class of fit produces threads within the tolerance range required for most general-purpose fastener assemblies. It is commonly installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working in manufacturing, maintenance, and fabrication operations where UNC threaded holes are required in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials.
Designed as an OEM-style cutting tool replacement for 3/8-16 UNC spiral flute tapping applications. No specific machine or holder compatibility was provided in the product data; confirm shank dimensions against your tapping chuck or holder specifications before use.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tapping chuck, collet holder, or rigid tapping adapter on a machine tool. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material; do not run the tap dry in ferrous materials. De-energize and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting taps, following applicable shop safety procedures.
