The ACCUPRO 316073 is a solid micrograin carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter with a 3.25 inch length of cut and a 6 inch overall length, making it well suited for deep-reach slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. The five-flute spiral geometry with a 37-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish quality. A zirconium nitride (ZrN) coating reduces friction and extends tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This end mill is center-cutting, allowing for direct plunge entry into the workpiece. It is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators.
The 316073 is suited for use in vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Its 0.5 inch shank diameter fits standard ER, CAT, BT, and straight-collet toolholders sized for 1/2 inch shanks. The extended 3.25 inch length of cut makes it particularly useful for deep-cavity mold work, fixture machining, and multi-pass side milling where standard-reach end mills fall short. The ZrN finish makes it a practical choice for cutting stainless steel, alloy steels, cast iron, and hardened materials at appropriate speeds and feeds.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide end mill compatible with any 1/2 inch straight-shank toolholder used in CNC or manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Always ensure the machine spindle is powered down and the tool path is cleared before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the minimum recommended engagement depth in the toolholder collet or chuck to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, especially for finish milling passes, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish.
