The ACCUPRO 30165-00C is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. It produces a 1/2-13 UNC thread and features a plug chamfer, which distributes cutting load across the leading threads for controlled engagement. Made from powdered metal with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, the tap delivers improved wear resistance and surface hardness compared to standard high-speed steel. The H5 thread limit and Class 2B fit designation make it suitable for general-purpose fastener threads in commercial and industrial work. This tool is typically installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking professionals using a tap wrench, drill press, or CNC tapping head.
The 30165-00C is suited for tapping through holes in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where chip evacuation forward through the hole is practical. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than packing them into the flutes, reducing the risk of tap breakage and improving thread quality in production and maintenance tapping operations. With three flutes, it balances chip clearance with core strength. Coolant-through capability is not included, so flood or drip coolant is applied externally when required by the material or depth of cut.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for through-hole 1/2-13 UNC tapping operations in ferrous and compatible non-ferrous materials; confirm workpiece material and machine setup before use.
Tapping operations should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle or tap wrench is properly aligned to the drilled hole before engagement to prevent thread skew or tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped; do not run the tap dry in steel or cast iron. Always back the tap out periodically in hand tapping to break and clear chips.
