The ACCUPRO 30085-00C is a spiral point tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in through-hole applications. It produces a 1/4-20 UNC thread to a Class 2B fit with an H5 thread limit, making it suitable for general-purpose fastener clearance work. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), which improves surface hardness and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel. Three flutes and a plug chamfer allow the tap to push chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, a geometry well suited to through-hole tapping in steel, stainless, and similar materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is intended for through-hole tapping operations on CNC machining centers, turret lathes, or manual drill presses equipped with a tapping attachment. The plug chamfer requires adequate thread engagement depth and is not appropriate for blind holes where chip evacuation is restricted. The 1/4-20 UNC thread form is one of the most common inch-series fastener threads in North American manufacturing and maintenance applications, appearing in structural assemblies, machine components, and equipment frames across light industrial and commercial environments.
Designed as a standard 1/4-20 UNC spiral point plug tap suitable for use in through-hole tapping applications on compatible CNC and manual machine tool setups accepting standard tap shank dimensions.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures for the workpiece material and machine type in use. Ensure the spindle is at a full stop and all motion has ceased before changing or inspecting the tap. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Do not force a tap that has stalled or reversed unexpectedly, as this can cause breakage and workpiece damage.
