The ACCUPRO 18952-00T is a thread forming tap designed for M12x1.75 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger, chip-free threads. This tap is manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel for improved toughness and wear resistance compared to conventional HSS, and is coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) to reduce friction and extend tool life. With a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, it can thread closer to the bottom of a blind hole than spiral point or taper taps. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or maintenance environments will find this tap suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where thread quality and consistency are critical.
This tap is used in blind hole threading operations on M12x1.75 metric coarse applications. The bottoming chamfer configuration makes it the appropriate choice when full threads are needed as close to the hole bottom as possible. It is suited for use in machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines in industrial, manufacturing, and maintenance-repair-overhaul environments. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit make it compatible with standard metric fastener tolerances.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in M12x1.75 metric coarse applications with a right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit. Suitable for use in ductile metals including mild steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys where thread forming is appropriate.
Thread forming taps require proper hole preparation — use the correct form tap drill size for the target material and thread percentage before tapping. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; the single oil groove assists lubricant delivery but manual lubrication is recommended. Ensure the tapping attachment or machine spindle is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage in blind holes. Never use thread forming taps in brittle materials such as cast iron or hardened steel, as these materials do not deform plastically and will cause tap failure.
