The ACCUPRO 17967-00T is a thread forming tap designed for creating M4x0.70 metric coarse internal threads without cutting chips. Made from powdered metal high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in over approximately 4 threads, making it suitable for through-hole threading applications. At 2.125 inches overall length, it fits standard tap holders used in machining, maintenance, and production environments. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians typically install this tap using CNC machines, drill presses, or hand tap handles.
This tap is designed for through-hole threading in metals where a chip-free thread forming process is preferred. The M4x0.70 metric coarse thread size is common in general mechanical assemblies, equipment maintenance, and light structural applications. With a 6H class of fit and D6 thread limit, it produces threads within standard metric tolerance for fastener engagement. The right-hand thread direction and single oil groove make it compatible with standard tapping fluids and conventional tap holder setups used across manufacturing and repair trades.
Designed for use in through-hole threading applications requiring M4x0.70 metric coarse right-hand threads with a 6H class of fit. Compatible with standard tap holders and chucks sized for a 0.168 inch shank diameter.
Thread forming taps require proper tapping fluid or cutting oil to reduce friction and heat during operation. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before beginning. Power down any machine tool and secure all moving components before changing or inspecting taps. Follow applicable shop safety standards and tool manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed recommendations for the specific workpiece material.
