The ACCUPRO 14045-00T is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for creating 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. It carries an H5 thread limit for close-tolerance work and features a 2.5-thread chamfer, allowing the tap to reach near the bottom of a blind hole. With an overall length of 3.375 inches and a 1-inch thread length, it is well suited for general machining, maintenance, and repair operations performed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This tap is used in blind hole threading operations on ductile and malleable materials such as aluminum, mild steel, brass, and similar metals. The thread forming process work-hardens the thread flanks, making it a preferred choice where thread strength is critical. It is appropriate for production machining environments as well as job-shop and MRO use. The right-hand thread direction is standard for the majority of threading operations, and the single oil groove aids lubrication delivery to the forming zone during the tapping cycle.
Designed as a direct-fit thread forming tap for 1/2-13 UNC blind hole threading operations in ductile and malleable materials using standard tap holders and tapping heads configured for right-hand tooling.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill size — consult a forming tap drill chart for the correct pre-drill diameter before use. Secure the tap in a rigid tap holder or CNC tapping head to maintain axial alignment and prevent thread distortion. Apply cutting or tapping oil rated for the workpiece material to the oil groove and bore before and during the tapping cycle. Inspect the tap for wear or deformation before each use and replace if thread tolerance or surface finish degrades.
