The ACCUPRO 14045-00C is a thread forming tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than removing chips, producing stronger threads with a burnished finish. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel and carries a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating for improved wear resistance and tool life in demanding production environments. With a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, it threads close to the bottom of a blind hole. Machinists and tool and die technicians will find this tap suited for medium to high-volume threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups where a right-hand 1/2-13 UNC thread profile is required. The H5 thread limit designates a tolerance class appropriate for close-fit threaded assemblies. The single oil groove aids lubrication flow during the forming process. Typical applications include threading steel, aluminum, and ductile materials where chip evacuation is a concern and formed threads are preferred over cut threads for added strength.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-13 UNC blind hole threading applications where a bottoming tap with H5 thread limit is specified. Compatible with conventional tapping chucks and floating tap holders accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter with a 0.275-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require proper lubrication or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material — consult the fluid manufacturer for recommendations for the specific alloy being tapped. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before engagement to prevent thread lead errors or tap breakage. Always confirm the pilot hole diameter is sized correctly for a forming tap, as the required hole size differs from that used with cutting taps. Power down and secure the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the tap.
