The ACCUPRO 12205-00C is a thread forming tap designed for through-hole threading applications in ductile metals and other formable materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to manage. This tap is manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved hardness and wear resistance. It carries a plug chamfer with 4 chamfered threads, a right-hand thread direction, and an H5 thread limit for consistent Class 2B fit tolerances. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and fabrication professionals working with 10-32 UNF threads will find this tap suitable for production and maintenance tapping operations.
This tap is sized for 10-32 UNF threads and is configured for through-hole threading. The plug chamfer style makes it well suited for starting in a hole with sufficient depth, providing a gradual lead-in over 4 threads. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a tapping depth of 0.875 inches, it fits standard tapping chucks and holders used in both CNC and manual drill press setups. It is appropriate for light industrial, aerospace component work, and general machining where thread integrity and chip-free threading are priorities.
Designed for through-hole threading of 10-32 UNF threads in ductile and formable materials. Compatible with standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
Thread forming taps require proper cutting fluid or tapping oil applied before and during the tapping operation to prevent galling and extend tool life. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before engagement. Use a tapping chuck with appropriate torque relief when operating in CNC or power tapping setups to avoid tap breakage. Do not use this tap in brittle materials such as cast iron, as thread forming requires material ductility to function correctly.
