The ACCUPRO 12181742 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. With a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 6-inch overall length, this tool falls into the extra-long category, giving machinists reach into deep pockets and tall workpiece features without requiring extended-reach adapters. The micrograin carbide substrate supports sharp edge retention at elevated cutting speeds. An AlTiN coating reduces heat buildup at the cutting zone, extending tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. Two right-hand spiral flutes with a 40-degree helix angle promote aggressive chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes.
This end mill is suited for vertical and horizontal machining centers running ferrous metals, stainless steels, cast iron, and hardened alloys where heat resistance and edge stability are critical. The centercutting geometry allows plunge milling in addition to peripheral and slot milling operations. The extra-long configuration makes it a practical choice for mold and die work, deep-cavity profiling, and tall-fixture applications where standard-length tools cannot reach. A 1-inch shank diameter matches directly to standard ER or side-lock toolholders common in most production and job-shop setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new-install tool for CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with 1-inch shank toolholding systems, including ER collet chucks, Weldon side-lock holders, and hydraulic chucks accepting 1-inch shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the minimum recommended insertion depth for your toolholder type to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout at the cutting diameter with a dial indicator before beginning a production run, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
