The ACCUPRO 12181684 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from micrograin carbide stock, it carries a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) finish that increases surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated tooling. At 0.4531 inches in diameter with a 40-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry, it delivers aggressive chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The stub-length configuration keeps deflection low in tight-clearance setups. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into a workpiece. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators install this class of end mill in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
This end mill suits general-purpose profiling, slotting, and plunging operations in shop and production environments. Its 5/8-inch length of cut suits shallow-to-medium-depth passes, and the 1/2-inch shank diameter fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders found on most CNC knee mills and machining centers. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is consistent with conventional milling setups. It is appropriate for applications in steel, stainless, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys where a stub overhang and micrograin carbide substrate are preferred for rigidity and tool life.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for 1/2-inch shank ER collet chucks, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine placed in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Torque the toolholder to the toolholder manufacturer specifications using a calibrated torque wrench. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation and before cutting to confirm acceptable concentricity for the intended operation.
