The ACCUPRO 12181658 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It features a 23/64 inch (0.3594 inch) cutting diameter with a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 3/8 inch shank diameter, making it a stub-length tool suited for rigidity in tight-clearance applications. The AlTiN coating provides oxidation resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. With 2 flutes and a 40-degree spiral helix, this end mill is optimized for chip evacuation and surface finish in moderate material removal operations. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in standard end mill holders or collet chucks on vertical machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute, centercutting tool, meaning it can be used for plunge cuts as well as peripheral and slot milling. The stub-length configuration reduces deflection and improves accuracy in shallow-depth milling passes. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher feed rates and longer tool life compared to standard carbide grades. This tool is suited for production milling of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials where AlTiN coatings perform best. It is not recommended for aluminum or non-ferrous applications where an uncoated or ZrN-coated tool would be preferred.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for 3/8 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC mills requiring a 3/8 inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the recommended insertion depth for the holder type in use and torque set screws or collet nuts to the holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before use, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut.
