The ACCUPRO 12180722 is a 5-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, hardened steels, and similar materials. It carries an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) finish that extends tool life in high-heat cutting environments. The 1/4 inch diameter cutting edge is paired with a 3/8 inch length of cut and a 40-degree helix angle, which promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. Spiral fluting and a right-hand cut with right-hand flute geometry make this a conventional, center-cutting end mill suited for slotting, profiling, and plunge operations.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and similar spindle-driven equipment where close-tolerance milling is required. It is well suited for shops and field tool rooms performing finish passes, pocket milling, or contour work in medium-to-hard materials. The 5-flute configuration increases the number of cutting edges compared to a standard 4-flute, allowing for higher feed rates at equivalent chip loads. Micrograin carbide substrate and the AlTiN coating make it especially effective in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting strategies at elevated spindle speeds.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for 1/4 inch collets, ER collet chucks, and end mill holders across CNC machining centers and conventional mills requiring a 1/4 inch shank diameter tool.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with proper collet torque procedures and runout verification. Ensure the spindle and collet are free of debris before seating the shank, and confirm shank engagement depth meets the tool holder manufacturer minimum before tightening. Verify spindle speed and feed rate parameters against the material being cut before first use. Never exceed the tool length of cut range of 0.3 to 0.5 inches to avoid tool deflection or breakage.
