The ACCUPRO 12178798 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting and machining environments. The tool measures 7/16 inches in diameter with a 5/8-inch length of cut and a 2-inch overall length. It features two spiral flutes with a 40-degree helix angle and a nACRo finish, which provides enhanced wear resistance and heat reduction during high-speed cutting. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation is standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. This is a stub-length end mill, making it well-suited for rigid, close-tolerance work where minimal tool overhang is critical. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This end mill is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metal milling applications where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. The centercutting design allows for plunge cuts as well as peripheral and slot milling. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher speeds and feeds compared to standard carbide grades. Typical applications include profiling, slotting, and pocketing operations on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The stub length classification improves rigidity, reducing deflection in demanding cuts. Mill diameter tolerance is held to plus 0.000 and minus 0.002 inches, and shank diameter tolerance runs minus 0.0001 to minus 0.0004 inches.
Designed as a standard shank square end mill compatible with 7/16-inch collets, end mill holders, and ER-style tooling systems used on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and power is isolated before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum recommended engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and compromise surface finish.
