The ACCUPRO 12178665 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining environments. With a 1/4 inch mill diameter, 5 flutes, and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, it handles high-speed cutting in hard and abrasive materials where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. The corner radius measures 0.03 inches, reducing stress concentration at the cutting edge and extending tool life compared to square end geometry. Overall length is 2-1/2 inches with a 3/4 inch length of cut and a 1/4 inch shank diameter. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments rely on this type of end mill for finishing and semi-finishing operations.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, hardened steels, and high-temperature alloys where a corner radius profile is specified. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry in addition to peripheral and slot milling. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are standard for conventional CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Variable index flute spacing helps reduce harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts.
Designed as a standard 1/4 inch shank corner radius end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic chucks sized for 1/4 inch round shanks on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before loading or removing the end mill. Verify collet or holder runout with a dial indicator before production cutting, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a 5-flute tool and degrade corner radius tolerance. Consult the machine tool builder guidelines and tooling manufacturer feed-and-speed data before first use.
