The ACCUPRO 12178598 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal fabrication, tool-and-die, and general machining environments. It features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length, making it suited for applications that require extended reach without sacrificing rigidity. The three-flute spiral configuration with a 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A zirconium nitride (ZrN) finish adds surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous cutting applications. Micrograin carbide construction supports higher feed rates and tighter tolerances compared to standard carbide grades.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool is specified. The centercutting geometry allows plunge milling as well as peripheral and slot milling. Its long-length classification makes it appropriate for deeper pockets and cavities where a standard-length end mill cannot reach the full depth of cut. Machinists working in aerospace, mold making, and precision component manufacturing will find this tool useful for profiling, contouring, and full-slot operations in a range of materials.
Designed as a standard replacement or production end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 5/16 inch straight shank tool holder or collet.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth, and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts. Do not exceed the tool's rated cutting parameters as published by the manufacturer.
