The ACCUPRO 12177628 is a tapered ball end mill engineered for precision milling in tight-tolerance applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this tool delivers the hardness and edge retention required for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The ball end profile produces smooth contoured surfaces and blended radii in 3D profiling and finishing passes. With a 3-degree taper per side, a 1/4-inch small end diameter, and a 3/4-inch length of cut, the 12177628 is suited for die and mold work, aerospace component finishing, and precision part contouring where dimensional accuracy is critical. Licensed machinists and CNC toolmakers are the primary users of this style of end mill.
This tapered ball end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with appropriate collet or end mill holders. The 3/8-inch shank diameter accommodates standard ER collet systems and end mill holders commonly found in both job shop and production environments. The uncoated micrograin carbide construction makes it well-suited for dry cutting or use with flood coolant on aluminum, brass, tool steel, and similar materials. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation during finishing and semi-finishing operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 3/8-inch shank tapered ball end mill applications in CNC machining centers and manual mills using ER or end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolsetter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an E-stop or safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended grip length and torque the collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and compromises surface finish on tapered profiles.
