The ACCUPRO 12177590 is a solid carbide tapered ball end mill designed for precision milling of contoured surfaces, tapered slots, and complex 3D profiles. It features a 3/16 inch small end diameter with a 1.5-degree taper per side, delivering controlled material removal in tight geometries. The ball end geometry with a 3/32 inch nose radius enables smooth finishing passes on curved and ramped surfaces. With 3 spiral flutes in a right-hand cut direction and a 30-degree helix angle, this tool provides efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. It is manufactured from micrograin solid carbide and left uncoated, making it suitable for use in non-ferrous metals, hardened steels, and composites when run at appropriate speeds and feeds.
This tapered end mill is suited for die and mold work, aerospace profiling, and precision machining of contoured workpieces where draft angles must be held accurately. The 2-1/4 inch length of cut and 4 inch overall length allow reach into moderate-depth cavities without sacrificing rigidity. The 5/16 inch shank fits standard collet chucks and toolholders used on CNC machining centers. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry where required. Machinists working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments will find this geometry useful for finishing tapered walls and blended surfaces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fitment for CNC machining center toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 5/16 inch shank diameter.
This tool is installed by a machinist or CNC operator into a compatible collet chuck or end mill holder torqued to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify runout at the cutting end with a dial indicator before beginning a production run, as excess runout accelerates wear on carbide tools and degrades surface finish. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material.
