The ACCUPRO 11625-01C is a thread forming tap designed for creating 8-32 UNC internal threads in blind holes without cutting chips. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material to produce threads, resulting in stronger thread forms and eliminating chip evacuation concerns. This tap is manufactured from powdered metal high speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating for improved wear resistance and tool life. With a bottoming chamfer of 2.5 threads, it is built for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this tap in production and maintenance environments where thread quality and hole depth control are critical.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading applications in softer ductile metals where material flow is achievable, such as aluminum, brass, and mild steel. The bottoming chamfer style allows threading to within a few threads of the hole bottom, making it appropriate for shallow blind hole applications where thread engagement depth is limited. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing operations requiring precision 8-32 UNC threads in production quantities or single-piece work.

Verify proper tap drill size for thread forming applications before use, as forming taps require a different drill diameter than cutting taps for the same thread size.
Thread forming taps must be used with appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil to reduce forming torque and extend tool life. Always use the correct forming-tap drill diameter for the material and thread size, as standard cutting-tap drill charts do not apply. Secure the workpiece and use a tapping fixture or tapping head to maintain axial alignment and prevent tap breakage. Replace worn taps promptly, as a dull forming tap generates excessive torque and risks workpiece or tool damage.
