The ABI FOUNDRY 1737 is a service weight cast iron wye fitting designed for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping systems. It provides a branch connection in sanitary drainage lines, allowing a 6-inch branch line to intersect an 8-inch main run at a wye angle. The spigot inlet connects to a hub-end fitting upstream, while the two hub outlets receive spigot-end pipe or fittings downstream. Cast from domestic cast iron, this fitting delivers the mass and durability required for below-grade and in-wall DWV installations. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers.
This fitting is used in residential and commercial sanitary drainage and vent systems where a 6-inch branch must tie into an 8-inch main. The spigot x hub x hub end configuration suits it for lead-and-oakum or no-hub-transition assemblies depending on the adjoining fittings used. Typical applications include main stack connections, horizontal branch takeoffs, and building drain assemblies in new construction or large-scale renovation projects requiring service weight cast iron pipe and fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for service weight cast iron hub-and-spigot DWV piping systems using 8-inch and 6-inch nominal pipe sizes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). The drainage system must be fully depressurized and isolated before fitting removal or installation. Hub joints are typically sealed with lead and oakum or an approved mechanical joint method per code requirements. Support the fitting adequately with approved hangers to prevent stress on the joints after assembly.
