The ABI FOUNDRY 1591 is a service weight cast iron wye fitting designed for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) piping systems. It features a 4 x 2 inch nominal configuration with a spigot inlet and dual hub outlets, allowing a 2-inch branch line to tie into a 4-inch main line. The fitting is manufactured domestically from cast iron and is rated for temperatures from 32 to 212 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in below-grade and above-grade soil and waste stacks in residential and commercial construction.
This wye fitting is used in soil, waste, and vent applications where a branch connection is needed off a 4-inch main run. The spigot end inserts into a hub fitting or lead-and-oakum joint on the main line, while the two hub ends receive spigot pipe or fittings. It is well suited for new construction and retrofit drain installations where cast iron is specified by code or by the project engineer. Its domestic manufacture supports projects with Buy American or domestic content requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for service weight cast iron hub-and-spigot DWV piping systems using 4-inch main lines with 2-inch branch connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local amendments. Shut off water supply and ensure the piping system is drained and depressurized before cutting into an existing line. Lead-and-oakum or mechanical compression couplings may be used to join the spigot end depending on the existing system configuration. Support cast iron piping at intervals required by code to prevent joint stress and sagging.
