The ABB pse60-600-70 is a three-phase electronic soft starter designed to control the acceleration and deceleration of AC induction motors in commercial and industrial applications. Rated for 60 amps and 50 hp, it operates across a wide input voltage range of 208 to 600 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, making it suitable for a broad range of power distribution environments. The unit draws only 2.2 watts in standby, reducing panel heat load. Connections are made via screw terminals, and the IP00 open enclosure rating means the device must be mounted inside a suitable enclosure or control panel. Licensed electricians and industrial controls technicians are the primary installers.
This soft starter is applied in motor control centers, industrial control panels, and packaged equipment where across-the-line starting would cause excessive inrush current or mechanical stress on driven equipment. Typical applications include pump systems, fans, compressors, and conveyor drives in commercial and light industrial facilities. The wide voltage compatibility makes it well suited for sites served by both 208-volt and 480-volt or 600-volt distribution systems. The PSE series from ABB is designed for straightforward integration into new or retrofit panel builds.
Designed as an OEM-style soft starter for three-phase AC induction motors rated up to 50 hp operating on 208 to 600 VAC, 50 or 60 Hz systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out all power to the panel before wiring the unit. Because this device carries an IP00 rating, it must be enclosed in a suitable control enclosure that provides the required environmental protection for the installation location. Verify that the enclosure ventilation is adequate to maintain the operating temperature within the -25 to 60 degrees C rated range.
