The ABB pse170-600-70 is a compact PSE Series soft starter designed to provide controlled motor acceleration and deceleration for AC induction motor applications. It accepts motor voltages from 208 to 600 volts AC and control voltages from 120 to 240 volts AC. Rated at 169 FLA for normal duty and 130 FLA for heavy duty, this unit delivers built-in overload protection, underload protection, and a current limit function that allows smooth motor starts even on weaker electrical networks. Mounting is via screw, and the unit includes a digital keypad and optional FieldBus communication capability. Note: lugs are required and sold separately.
The pse170-600-70 is suited for commercial and industrial pump applications where controlled starting is critical to system health. The current limit function prevents excessive inrush current during startup, reducing mechanical stress on couplings, belts, and pump impellers. The integrated overload and underload protection covers common load fault conditions encountered in pump systems. A built-in bypass function is included. This starter is installed by licensed electricians in motor control panel builds, pump station panels, and HVAC mechanical rooms.
Designed for use with AC induction motors in pump and general motor control applications operating on 208 to 600 volt AC supplies. Specific compatible motor frames and system configurations should be verified against the ABB PSE Series selection guide prior to installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out all power to the panel before wiring or servicing the soft starter. Lugs are not included and must be sourced separately before installation can be completed. Verify motor FLA against the starter rating and confirm control voltage source matches the unit requirements before energizing.
