The ABB 1440 is a 0.5-inch panel connector extension manufactured from malleable iron, designed for use with rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC). This fitting extends the threaded connection at a panel knockout, providing additional thread engagement when standard connector length falls short of full engagement through the enclosure wall. It is a standard wiring method fitting installed by licensed electricians during conduit system assembly on residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
The ABB 1440 is suited for use in conduit installations where panel walls or enclosure knockouts require additional fitting depth to achieve proper locknut seating. Common applications include electrical panels, junction boxes, and enclosures where rigid or IMC conduit enters through thicker-gauge steel or stacked-wall conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style fitting for use with 0.5-inch rigid metal conduit and IMC conduit connector installations at electrical panel and enclosure knockouts.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 344 for rigid metal conduit or Article 342 for IMC. De-energize all circuits in the enclosure before working near panel knockouts. Ensure the extension is fully threaded and locknut is tightened securely against the enclosure wall to maintain the mechanical and bonding integrity of the conduit system. Do not use with conduit types or trade sizes other than those specified.
