There is no need for a media retainer. Rated at MERV 1-4, it is UL classified and effective for protecting HVAC systems. The filter's nominal size is 14 by 18 by 1 inch, with an actual size of 13 7/8 inches by 17 7/8 inches by 3/4 inch. Recommended changeout is every 30 days.
