The A.Y. McDonald 6190-149 is a cast iron submersible sump pump designed for residential and light commercial dewatering applications. Rated at 1/3 horsepower and operating on 115 volts, this pump delivers up to 60 GPM through a 1.5-inch discharge outlet. It ships with a 10-foot power cord and uses a magnetic switch for automatic float-free level sensing. The cast iron construction provides durability in pit environments where lesser materials corrode or crack over time. Licensed plumbers and pump technicians are the primary installers for this type of unit.
The 6190-149 fits standard residential sump pits and is appropriate for basements, crawl spaces, and below-grade mechanical rooms that accumulate groundwater or stormwater intrusion. The 1.5-inch discharge outlet is compatible with common PVC discharge piping configurations. The magnetic switch design eliminates a mechanical float arm, reducing the chance of the switch fouling against pit walls or debris. This makes it well suited for narrow or irregularly shaped sump pits where float clearance is limited.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct installation sump pump for residential and light commercial sump pit applications using 1.5-inch discharge piping on a standard 115-volt circuit.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Disconnect power at the breaker before lowering the pump into the pit or making any discharge connections. Verify the discharge line includes a weep hole just above the pump outlet to prevent air lock on startup. Do not run the pump dry, as the motor relies on the surrounding water for cooling.
